Maxwell Place Park sits along the Hudson River waterfront at the north end of Hoboken, with genuinely unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline that draw people out especially at sunset. Two separate fenced dog runs, one for large dogs and one for small, sit near the playground area, giving off-leash time regardless of your dog's size. Beyond the dog runs, leashed dogs are welcome throughout the rest of the park, including the paved waterfront walkway and pier, grass lawns, and picnic areas. It's noticeably quieter and less crowded than Pier A Park closer to downtown Hoboken, with fewer tourists and no port-a-potties, though there are proper public restrooms. A small rocky "beach" area exists, but swimming is prohibited. In summer, food trucks show up regularly, and the park hosts occasional fireworks viewings and art installations.

Hoboken Cove Boathouse, a volunteer-run boathouse right in Maxwell Place Park, offers free kayaking on the Hudson, and dogs are welcome to paddle along. They keep personal flotation devices on hand for dogs and people.
