Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park surrounds one of the largest waterfalls on the East Coast, where the Passaic River drops 77 feet through a basalt gorge. Overlook paths let you see the falls from several angles, and the surrounding mill district tells the story of Alexander Hamilton’s plan for an American industrial city. Leashed dogs are welcome. It’s an easy, short visit to pair with a longer walk at nearby Garret Mountain.
