Governors Island is a short ferry ride from Lower Manhattan, with lawns, historic forts, and The Hills, where Outlook Hill looks out over the harbor, Lower Manhattan, and Brooklyn.

Dogs are allowed only in the off season, November 1 through April 30, and must stay leashed everywhere, including on the ferry. From December 1, the Winter Dog Park in Colonels Row gives them a place to run off leash.
