A quiet, wooded lake park in Whiting with a peaceful Pinelands setting and plenty of shade for a walk with your dog.

Harry Wright Lake feels tucked away in the woods, with a freshwater lake surrounded by tall pines, sandy shoreline, and plenty of shade. It’s a pretty spot for a quieter dog walk, especially if you like the more woodsy feel of the Whiting area. The park is also one of Manchester’s main recreation spots, with beaches, playgrounds, a bandshell, and summer events around the lake.

Know before you go

  • Dogs must stay on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
  • Dogs are not allowed on or around the swimming beaches. Manchester Police has specifically reminded visitors that the beach areas at Harry Wright Lake are pet-free.
  • Pets are also prohibited in picnic areas, bathing areas, swimming areas, and any additional areas marked by posted signs.
  • This is not a dog-swimming lake. I would list it as a leashed walking spot, not a place for dogs to get into the water.
  • The park itself is heavily wooded, but the main recreation areas are concentrated around the two swimming beaches, so pay attention to signage once you arrive to make sure you stay in the pet-permitted portions.
  • During the 2026 swimming season, the beach operates 10 AM–6 PM and requires badges. Dogs still cannot enter those beach areas.
  • Summer concerts, Manchester Day, and other township events are held here, so the park can be much busier on event days
