Hartshorne Woods covers a forested ridge between the Navesink River and the ocean, with miles of trails through hardwoods, holly, and mountain laurel. Routes range from wide, easy paths to longer climbs that end at river overlooks.

The Buttermilk Valley entrance is the quieter trailhead and a good starting point with a dog. Old coastal defense batteries sit at the eastern end of the park.
