Hedden County Park covers about 390 acres across Randolph, Dover and Mine Hill. Jackson Brook runs through the middle of it, dropping over a string of small waterfalls known as Indian Falls, and the main area has Hedden Pond, a pavilion, picnic tables and grills.

Marked trails climb into the woods above the brook. Linking the Jackson Brook, Indian Falls, Hedden Circular and Mountain trails makes a loop of a little over three miles with some real elevation, and it's especially pretty when the leaves turn.

Know before you go

  • Dogs must be leashed.
  • Leave the brook as you find it and skip the fire; the county closed the park for two weeks in 2020 after people dammed the brook and lit campfires.
  • The Indian Falls loop is easiest from the small dirt lot at 401 East Randolph Ave in Mine Hill, which is a separate entrance from Reservoir Ave.
  • Trails are rocky with climbs; wear real shoes.
