Monmouth Battlefield is one of those places where the history is still visible in the land. The park preserves the fields, hills, farm roads, and hedgerows where the Battle of Monmouth was fought in 1778, and the walking paths take you right through that landscape. Parts of the battlefield are still actively farmed, while other sections pass through woods, meadows, and quieter stretches around the historic properties. Signs along the way point out important parts of the battle, and the park also has the restored Craig House, a visitor center on Combs Hill, picnic areas, and a playground.

Know before you go

  • Pets are not allowed inside the visitor center, museum spaces, or historic buildings, such as the Craig House
  • The park has about 25 miles of farm roads, paths, and field edges, ranging from short walks to longer routes across the battlefield
