Rutgers Gardens is the university's official botanic garden, 180 acres of display gardens, natural areas, a student vegetable farm, and research plots. A favorite among visitors is the bamboo forest walk that follows a small creek with tiny waterfalls along the way. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout, and the paths connecting to the Raritan River are well-maintained and easy walking. It's genuinely peaceful and well-manicured, with plenty of spots to sit, picnic on the grass, or play fetch on the open lawns.
