South Mountain Reservation

More than 2,100 acres of wooded trails, streams, waterfalls, rocky overlooks, and old carriage roads, with a separate off-leash dog park inside the reservation.

South Mountain Reservation covers a large stretch of the Watchung Mountains, with trails running through dense woods, along the Rahway River, and across rocky, hilly terrain. A section of the Lenape Trail passes through the reservation, along with old carriage roads and paths leading to waterfalls, scenic overlooks, and historic Washington Rock. The park also has picnic areas, fishing, a wildflower preserve and sculpture park, and a two-acre dog park with separate sections for small and large dogs.
